Kenya's GDC Gets More Money for Menengai Geothermal
Thursday, April 19, 2012  Printer Friendly Email this article

In 2011, Kenya's Geothermal Development Co. (GDC) received nearly $70 million from the French Development Bank (AFD) for equipment for the Menengai geothermal project, and now the African Development Bank (AfDB) is on board. The project, which will produce electricity for 500,000 households, was launched April 12 marking the first geothermal project developed exclusively by GDC.

The AfDB, like the AFD, approved a $125-million loan and a grant of $25 million in 2011.
