Ethiopia to Power South Sudan and Somaliland
Tuesday, May 9, 2017  Printer Friendly Email this article

Ethiopia is working on the exportation of electricity to South Sudan and Somaliland. The project is part of the economic integration of East Africa.

Ethiopia has had the plans on the drawing board for some time but the civil war in South Sudan and the lack of recognition by the international community of Somaliland has kept the project from progressing.

The country already exports electricity to Sudan and Djibouti, 100 MW and 80 MW respectively. It will also export power to Kenya once a transmission line of 2,000 MW is constructed.
