Nigeria will see three new gas-fired power stations built in the coming years. According to NNPC’s group general manager, Maikanti Baru, the power stations will be built by the state-run firm and should be up and running by 2019.

Speaking at an event running parallel to the Offshore Technical Conference that was held in Houston last week, Baru's representative, Saidu Mohammed, NNPC’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Gas and Power, said the plants will be located in Abuja, Kaduna and Kano. The three power stations will generate up to 3,000 MW of electricity.
