The ministers of water and energy from Cameroon and the Republic of Congo, Basile Atangana Kouna, and Serge Blaise Zoniaba, respectively co-chaired a session of the Interstate Committee on the Hydroelectric Power Project in Yaoundé on May 12. During the session, the two agreed to find a partner for the public-private partnership (PPP) for the development of the Chollet hydropower dam on the Dja River and associated power lines. The project, which is expected to generate 600 MW of energy, will cost between 354 and 670 billion FCFA depending on the development option chosen by Sinohydro. At the end of the session, the parties reaffirmed their interest in the development of the project, the foundation of the electrical interconnection between the two countries, and possibly with other neighboring countries within the framework of the Central Africa Energy Pool Agreements.
