KDF to Fund Djibouti Geothermal

The Kuwait Development Fund (KDF) has provided Djibouti with $27 million to finance the Gale-Le-Koma geothermal project. The grant was approved after several days of intensive work between KDF and the Djibouti Office for Geothermal Energy Development (ODDEG).

The funds will be used to drill 10 wells (eight production boreholes and two injection boreholes) and construct a 15-MW geothermal power plant by 2021. This initial capacity will be extended to 50 MW in the final phase of the project. project.To move forward with the project the country has acquired two drilling units capable of drilling up to 2 km deep.

Launched in October 2016 the project is now fully funded and will be implemented by ODDEG.
