Eskom Receives Three Bio-waste Submittals from TWP

TWP Holdings has announced that it submitted three bio-waste IPP energy projects for evaluation by South Africa’s state-owned utility Eskom.

The bio-waste projects will utilize the large volume of unneeded product derived from timber producers, and is seen as economically viable without government assistance.

"A tree has something like 60% waste," says Townshend, whose company has clinched agreements with timber producers in George, Knysna and Richards Bay.

"It’s fairly small. We are looking at 7.5-MW power plants, which will cost about R120-million each, and that is our initial focus, but it’s a green and environmentally friendly option and the power is produced at the ends of the national grid, which is where Eskom wants it produced," Townshend adds.

TWP has the ability to raise the necessary capital to begin these projects working with solar companies expanding in Botswana and South Africa, should the company receive approval from Eskom in March.
