FPL Breaks Ground on the US’ Largest PV Project

Florida Power & Light (FPL) has announced that it broke ground on the 25 MW DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center – Florida’s first commercial scale solar PV project. The center, located on 180 acres of land, will contain 90,000 PV panels that will supply over 3,000 homes with electricity.

SunPower (SPWRA) is supplying the panels and its SunPower® Tracker technology, which automatically follows the sun’s movement throughout the day, increasing efficiency some 25% from that of fixed systems.

The project is the largest photovoltaic solar facility in the US and should be complete at the end of this year bringing over 200 jobs during construction.
