AfDB Allocates Funds to Benin

The AfDB recently allocated €61.77 million to Benin to finance its Rural Electrification Project. The funds will provide access to electricity to more than 48,000 households in 309 rural communities across the country.

The financing will aid the project in securing electrical connection equipment. In addition to these the 48,000 households, it is expected that 35 schools will also be connected to the national electricity grid.

The objective of the Rural Electrification Project is to increase Benin’s rural electrification rate from 8.11% in 2018 to 13.78% by 2022, said Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade, the director general in charge of West Africa to the AfDB.
