Help Wanted: VP Africa

SN Power Africa-Central America (SNP AfriCA) is looking for a senior level executive to join the company’s management team. SNP AfriCA is a newly established company committed to social and environmental sustainability as well as short and long-term profitability.

 

The vice president for Africa will be responsible for the strategic planning and execution of the company’s activities in the region. Key responsibilities include identifying, developing and securing investment opportunities, both acquisitions and greenfield projects. The Vice Presidents will be responsible for the performance of the hydropower portfolio as it develops in each region. Successful candidates will have management and development experience, and documented results within international industrial projects. Candidates must have strong implementation/leadership skills and ability to work under pressure. The positions reports to the CEO of SNP AfriCA.

 

Key Responsibilities

Overall budget and result responsibility for the region. Special focus on:

Return on invested capital

Cost control

Environmental and development effects based on the measurement criteria established for the region and specific projects

Project identification, investment, building/acquisition and operation

Market evaluation; ensure up-to-date status on all aspects of market development within the region (commercial, political, economic, legislative etc.)

Project identification; build and grow pipeline of possible acquisition targets and greenfield/brownfield projects

Partner development; identify and instigate reputational and commercial due-diligence work on potential partners. Engage with suitable prospects and build relationships

Project development and investment; Coordinate internal and external resources to develop project opportunities to stages of maturity required for investment decisions

Operations and Maintenance; ensure optimized output from power sales and adopt practices based on principles for reliability centered maintenance.

Exit consideration; Evaluate whether external risks, the market value of the owned assets or other conditions call for a reduction or sales of established owner positions.

Personnel and organization

Participate actively in the top management team of SNPA and drive organizational development within his/her region

Promote highest standards of Health and Safety for all our people and those working on our behalf

Hire and develop needed resources to ensure satisfactory delivery of objectives

Source capable resources from affiliated SN Power companies and deploy these suitably to ensure delivery on objectives

Strong commercial sense and industrial know-how

Insight and closeness to the energy markets and development of advanced market models

Sound judgment in choice of projects and partners

Experience from acquisition activities

Quality and thoroughness in the investment process, with focus on risk and reward management

Communication – being able to communicate complex investment proposals to a wider audience

Application of world-class health and safety standards

 

Knowledge and skills requirements

Academic degree in business administration, finance/economics or relevant field of engineering

Opportunity driven with international business experience and entrepreneurial mind-set

10+ years industrial experience displaying exceptional track record from roles focusing on business development through acquisitions and partners

Strong relationship builder with developed ability to influence key stakeholders

Good knowledge of the markets and the sociopolitical environment for establishment of commercial operations

Structured and with high personal integrity

Excellent oral and written English

Command of French and/or Portuguese will be an advantage
