The Nigerian Ministry of Power along with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), has deployed solar home systems and solar mini grids at primary healthcare centers that are serving as isolation centers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ahmad Salihijo, managing director of the REA said the projects include a 53.1-kWp solar hybrid mini-grid installed at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital COVID-19 Isolation Center, 25-kWp solar hybrid mini-grid at Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Public Health Laboratory in Lagos, as well as a 20-kWp solar hybrid mini-grid at 128 Bed Ikenne Isolation Center and 10-kWp solar Mini hybrid mini-grid at 100 Bed Iberekodo isolation Center in Ogun state.
REA has kept pushing its efforts forward to insure adequate power to health care centers around the country in the face of the pandemic. A series of webinars hosting discussions on how to meet the needs of these facilities has taken place and additional projects are planned.
