Windhoek Set for New Solar Plant Project

The capital city of Namibia, Windhoek, is set to see five new solar installations, according to local reports. The combined capacity of the facilities amounts to over $25 million USD and would bring 25MWp of clean energy to the region.

According to a report by The Namibian citing documents obtained from Windhoek’s monthly council meeting last week show the five solar power plants will be erected on the southern borders of Cimbebasia, along the B1 road to Rehoboth. The projects will be carried out under public-private partnerships (PPPs).

The documents did note, however, that there appears to be a disagreement between the municipality and the procurement unit regarding the size and scope of the project. According to the documents, the procurement unit wants the municipality to develop one big solar power plant, which would generate the 25MW needed.
