Ghana Moves toward Green Tourism

Ghana’s tourism industry is on an upward trend and has led the country’s government to promote sustainable tourism and ecotourism. Currently, the tourism industry in the West African nation accounts for almost 4% of the GDP.

With an annual growth rate of 12%, tourism has the potential of becoming a leader in Ghana’s foreign revenue, according to a 2005 report from the National Development Planning Commission.

Ghana’s comparative advantage in this sector includes historical, cultural, and archaeological sites that attract regional and international tourists. Nature Today, an environmental NGO in Ghana has developed a platform hosted on Facebook to promote sustainable tourism in Ghana. You may join the group (Ghana Tourism) on Facebook.
