Spain ramps up its African investment by giving €70 million to four West African countries for environmental projects. The recipients include Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, and Cote d’Ivoire with a particular focus on wind and solar sectors.
Spain’s ambassador to Ghana, Julia Olmo, said that Spain was the second in global solar energy utilization and third in windmill energy, stressing that her country was ready to offer immense support to Ghana to develop wind and solar energies in rural areas as well as water resource management. She urged efforts to continue toward research and development as well as privatization, noting that 70% of Spain’s exports came from the private sector.
The ambassador added that Spain was also concerned about the effects of climate change, and would continue to help developing countries in their search for a more sustainable environment.
