Burundi’s water and electricity authority has announced bids for the rehabilitation of five small hydroelectric projects totaling 19.6 MW and two electricity distribution networks. Regis de Production et de Distribution d’Eau et d’Electricite (REGIDESO) said the government had received $10.96 million from the African Development Fund for rehabilitation and extension of electricity infrastructure.
The announced bids are for any or all of three lots:
*Rehabilitation of five hydro plants: 18MW Rwegura on the Gitenge River; 1.44MW Nyemanga, Siguvyaye River; 850kW Kayenzi, Kavuruga River; 240kW Marangara, Ndurumu River; and 72kW Sanzu, on Sanzu River.
* Construction of two 30/10-kilovolt extensions of distribution in Bujumbura and associated 30-kV lines.
* Rehabilitation of the medium voltage network in Bujumbura.
