Solar Flashlights on Namibia

A Denver-based lawyer has started a non-profit organization set to deliver solar flashlights to Namibia. Doug Vilsack, founder of Elephant Energy, has sent shipments of almost indestructible plastic cases with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in order to light up residents that do not have access to the electrical grid.

The flashlight will enable women to continue weaving long after daylight hours have finished in addition to helping farmers that sleep in their fields keep light for protection.

Vilsack’s father, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack said that the program offers the US a way to rebrand its image while also offering a country like Namibia a chance at making great strides in technological advancements.
