Tanzania: Turning More to the Sun

With only about 10% of Tanzanians having access to electricity, sustainable development is a must and many are turning to solar as a way to generate the electricity. The search is on for alternative energy sources such as wind, biomass, solar, and natural gas – resources that Tanzania has in abundance – in order to reach targets set by the rural electrification program, a program that has yet to be implemented.

However, some solar projects exist in schools and hospitals throughout the country. Investment is climbing as a US company has already committed millions of dollars to generate and sell about 100 MW of energy produced from solar.
