AMEA Power Inks Multiple Hydrogen, Solar and Wind Deals Across Africa

AMEA Power has signed several deals for wind and solar projects in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Mauritania, Mozambique and Uganda. Many of the deals were inked on the sidelines of the COP28 in Dubai.

In Uganda, a successful project financing decision was reached with Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF), African Trade and Investment Development Insurance (ATIDI) for the Ituka 20 MW Solar PV Project in the West Nile Region. This project marks AMEA’s first green field IPP transaction in East Africa.

The project will be owned and operated by AMEA Power partnered with Danway EME, a UAE-based contractor that will execute and construct the 20MW Solar PV project.

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Djibouti signed an MoU with AMEA for the Grand Bara project. This project is a 25 MWp solar PV + 5 MWh battery storage initiative that will allow it to double its capacity to 50 MWp + 10MWh battery storage and will provide clean energy for more than 110,000 homes.

AMEA Power has also signed two MoUs with Mauritania’s Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Energy. Nani Chrougha. The ceremony was attended by the President of Mauritania, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Ghazouni. The deal includes hydrogen, solar and wind.

And in Mozambique, AMEA Power has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Mozambican company Hidropower and the country’s National Investment Bank (BNI) for a solar PV project. BNI reports the deal is worth $300 million.

The company also bagged the Aysha One (I) wind farm in Ethiopia. The wind farm will have a capacity of 300 MW and marks the first Independent Power Producer (IPP) project in the country.
