Energy Indaba Getting Geared for February

Release

Africa has without doubt sufficient resources to power the continent; however, the challenge of unlocking this to the benefit of all on the continent, still exists. Urgent interventions and Africa-specific solutions to address these challenges will be some of the main issues presented at the second annual ENERGY INDABA in Johannesburg on February 24-26, 2010. With only four months left to go, this highly anticipated event is already making great progress in ensuring that its conference and exhibition promotes sustainable development initiatives across the continent.

Facilitating the event’s specific focus on exploring innovative solutions for a new energy future for Africa is the Business Matchmaking Program. This unique platform will enable conference delegates, exhibitors, key speakers, pre-registered visitors to select the people with whom they would like to meet with. “We are very excited about this resource that affords our delegates the opportunity to network effectively at the ENERGY INDABA 2010 and make useful contacts. We are hopeful this will result in more partnerships, investment and ideas for innovative and sustainable energy projects on the continent,” says Liz Hart, Managing Director of Siyenza Management, the organiser of this flagship African event.  When delegates confirm their attendance, the ENERGY INDABA 2010 Business Matchmaking Team will profile the company they represent and provide access to an online matchmaking program. Through this, businesses are able to confirm meetings with interested parties and meet with them at a central point at the ENERGY INDABA.

For the second year in a row, the ENERGY INDABA will be accreditation by the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers, enabling attending professional engineer delegates to obtain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.   “By obtaining 2 CPD credits, these professionals will be able to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to improving their professional development – and work endeavours.  Moreover, these delegates will benefit from the knowledge that they will leave the ENERGY INDABA with a clearer perspective on their role in bolstering the energy sector,” explains Hart.

In bringing energy experts together, the ENERGY INDABA will proudly host the World Energy Council (WEC) Africa Regional Meeting on February 22 and 23, 2009. This United Nations-accredited event will see leaders in the energy sector provide insight on sustainable energy solutions for the present and future needs of the continent.  “We are extremely pleased to be hosting this very important meeting that is also helping to lead the way forward with sustainable energy solutions,” says Hart. “I am confident that we will see many positive outcomes from the ENERGY INDABA 2010 and WEC Africa Regional Meeting which will hopefully see Africa strengthen its position on issues relating to energy – and enable more people access to this key resource.”

Some of the other highlights of the ENERGY INDABA’s two-day conference programme are plenary sessions around energy infrastructure developments in Africa; energy use and carbon efficiency and exploiting and enhancing existing infrastructure and technologies.

A few of the keynote speakers are:

  • Elizabeth Dipou Peters, Honourable Minister of the South African Department of Energy
  • Brian Statham, Chairman of the South African National Energy Association
  • Dr Latsoucabe Fall, Regional Manager – Africa, at the World Energy Council
  • Barry Bredenkamp, Operations Manager for the National Energy Efficiency Agency
  • Dr Yves Guenon, Engineer and PhD in Physics Director of Business Development at AREVA
  • Dr Mohamed Abdel-Rahmen, Energy Expert a the NEPAD Secretariat
  • Greg Nott, Managing Director of Dewey & LeBoeuf  Johannesburg
