A huge contract went out to GE Power for the supply of wind turbines for a wind farm in the US. GE’s contract, worth $1.4 billion, has it providing wind turbines and services for a planned wind farm in Oregon.
The company plans to supply 338 turbines of 2.5 MW each for the $2 billion Shepherds Flat project, which is being developed by independent power producer Caithness Energy. The turbines will be installed in 2011 and 2012.
The Shepherds Flat station, which will generate capacity of 845 MW once completed, would be the largest wind facility in the world.
As part of the agreement, GE would service the generating station for 10 years.
