A major boost to southern Africa’s renewable energy sector has come in the form of a Finnish capital infusion of almost R89 million.
The agreement will be implemented over a three-year period and is set to help southern Africa as well as some East African nations. Finland entered into a partnership with the Development Bank of Southern Africa on January 31 to help the renewable energy sector increase its assistance to South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Namibia.
Alternative Energy Africa reported in November that Finland was also considering expanding into West Africa’s RE sector urging Finnish businesses to enter into the region (Finnish President Urges Solar Use in West Africa).
