Aker Solutions will participate in Scotland’s largest biomass renewable energy plant after being awarded a contract valued at £115 million by RWE. Aker will provide design, supply, installation, construction, and commissioning for a new 50 MW biomass renewable energy plant at the Tullis Russell Papermakers plant.
The company will supply all major plant items except the fluidized bed boiler and flue gas system which will be provided by Metso Power. Work is scheduled to commence this month with commissioning complete in March 2013.
Currently, the plant’s on-site production of heat and electricity is achieved with a combination of its own coal- and gas-fired cogeneration plant. Operation of the coal-fired plant is to be closed down under LCPD (Large Combustion Plant Directive) regulations and the new biomass plant will secure continuing energy supplies.
