Solar project developer Nur Energie joined the Desertec Industrial Initiative (DII) as an Associated Partner. The company is currently in the advanced stages of developing a concentrating solar power (CSP) project in Greece in addition to developing France’s largest building-integrated photovoltaic project on the roofs of the Port of Marseille.
Kevin Sara, Nur Energie CEO commented: “Nur Energie’s strategy is to build local partnerships in the markets where we operate. The European Union will become an important export market for renewable energy in the future, and the Dii will be a key partner in creating the framework conditions for renewable energy export projects from North Africa into the European Union.”
In February, the DII said it was gaining more support as the consortium expected to add support from other companies from Spain, Italy, France, Morocco, and Tunisia (More Companies to Join Desertec Consortium). Mid-March saw First Solar jumping on board to the large solar scheme using the Sahara desert (First Solar Jumps on Desertec). Desertec’s founders include other leading companies in the solar and wind energy business as well as in electricity distribution.
