Local Company Backed by China for Northern Cape Wind Farm

Developing renewable energy products in southern Africa, Mulilo Renewable Energy has announced that it will begin the first phase of a R1.7-billion wind energy plant in South Africa’s Northern Cape.

De Aar will be the home of a wind facility with the capacity to generate 100 MW once completed, creating 150 jobs for the construction phase and 50 permanent jobs afterward for local residents. Construction is scheduled to start in March 2011 and is set to be completed by June 2012.

Mulilo’s project will receive financial backing from the China Development Bank with China Guodian Corp. providing the technology for the project as part of the China-Africa development initiative.
