The 4th Moroccan-Russian Joint Commission was held on from June 15-16 where countries continued discussions on bilateral relations covering finance, trade, energy and mining, aerospace, transport, and tourism.
Morocco looks for Russia’s expertise in the energy sector while Russia sees the economic opportunities that are widely under-developed like the renewable energy sector in the North African country. Russia’s Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov said that Russian investors were particularly interested in taking part in Morocco’ solar industry.
Russia continues to make its rounds in Africa. Last June Russian President Dmitry Medvedev traveled to five African nations hoping to garner support for its nuclear ambitions on the continent. After his tour, Medvedev pledged that the Eastern European country would finance two Angolan hydroelectric projects totaling 2,000 MW.
