German company Phaesun is beginning to tackle Mozambique’s off-grid areas with its rural electrification project outside Maputo.
The company built the first Pico systems in Pessene that will help a primary school receive 15 solar lamps. Phaesun will establish a sustained trader network for the distribution of the Pico systems together with their project partner Coseba in Mozambique running training courses for 10 to 15 traders in the province of Sofala in the east of the country.
Phaesun will attempt to establish solar shops and kiosks that will allow customers to purchase and lease solar lamps by mid-2011. Peter Adelmann, professor at the University of Ulm/Germany is going to hold lectures on PV for the students of Electrical Engineering at the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo to increase the broad effect of the project.
Phaesun managing director Tobias Zwirner spoke to Alternative Energy Africa about Phaesun’s ambitions in Mozambique and the rest of Africa. For a more in depth look into Phaesun, off-grid PV, solar cookers and much more, be sure to sign up TODAY!
