France to Launch Offshore Wind Bid Round

France’s Ministry of Ecology and Energy will soon announce its opening for bids for the development of a 3,000-MW offshore wind project. Minister Jean Louis Borloo said 600 aerogenerators will be installed, with an estimated overall investment of about €10 billion, considering that each MW will cost €3.5 million.

The government will conduct feasibility studies over the next few months to determine the best location for the construction of the offshore plants in the English Channel, the North Sea, Brittany, Pays de la Loire, and the region of Languedoc- Roussillon.

The minister specified that the objective is to have 6,000 MW installed by 2020, with an investment from 15 to 20 billion, taking into account that installation and component costs are expected to drop.
