South African company NuPlanet has won a generation license for the 5 MW Mtirikwi hydro power plant in Zimbabwe, which is the largest reservoir in the southern African country.
NuPlanet has ventures in South Africa, completing the 3 MW Sol Plaatje plant in 2009 and the 4 MW Merino plant this year. The company also plans to begin construction on three more projects in South Africa for a combined capacity of 11 MW in 2011.
For Mtirikwi, NuPlanet has planned an eight-month technical feasibility and environmental impact assessment phase starting in 2011 before moving to financial closure, procurement, contracting and construction, and expects to be commissioned by Q4 2012.
