Ethiopia is expected to produce its first wind energy from the Ashegoda Wind Power Project in six months, according to a Vergnet executive.
The €210 million wind farm in Tigray State was announced in 2008 with a three-year expected completion date. It will have an installed capacity of 120 MW along with annual energy production of 400-450 GWh. Vergnet’s Director of Commercial Sales Pierre Pesnel said in an interview with Fortune that although the first payment was received in October 2009, the compensation plan from Ethiopia’s EEPCo delayed the process. He said, “With that five-month delay, we will finish the first phase in June 2011, in line with the original schedule.
