Zimbabwe and India are discussing bilateral cooperation in many areas, including renewable energy. India’s Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma and Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister Tendai Biti recently met in order to investigate further cooperation between the two countries.
Sharma said that India had a continued interest in education and capacity building programs in Africa, particularly Zimbabwe. The “India-Zimbabwe SME Project” helps sponsor Zimbabweans for study programs and experts from India visiting Zimbabwe over a two-year period to train locals in operation and maintenance of the machines and technologies.
The technology transfer that could offer support to develop a higher local content within various sectors like renewable energy would also stand to benefit from a partnership between the two countries. Sharma has stated that another major area of interest in power generation and is hoping to see a greater interest in the upcoming India-Africa Forum Summit held in May.
