Libya at War with West

Missile air strikes have been launched by the US and European nations against Libyan authorities on March 19 in an effort to impose a no-fly zone.

France kicked off the air strikes by sending warplanes after an emergency international summit in Paris earlier that day. France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy said representatives from the UN, EU, Arab League, and Western powers had agreed to use all necessary means, including military force, to carry out provisions in the UN Security Council resolution that declared a no-fly zone over Libya.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement that said the UN resolution had been hurriedly passed, and that it “regretted” the international military action against Libya.

Meanwhile, Qaddafi has vowed to fight back and considers the strikes an open act of aggression.
