The UAE could produce its own biofuel for the aviation industry joining the International Air Transport Association which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 2020 by 6%. Richard Jory, oil giant Shell’s general manager for the Middle East, South America, and Africa, said at the Dubai Global Energy Forum said that it was feasible, but global production will still take awhile.
"Shell has one of the broadest portfolios of R&D products and ventures which any country can tap,” Jory added. "Our R&D has ventured to create low carbon fuels with emphasis on scalability, yield and product cost. We are into GTL Jet Fuel to contribute to diversified aviation fuel supply and better local air quality at airports.”
