As Mozambique began the process for more Chinese investment to flood the country, the southern African nation is also looking to get a push in its renewable energy sector from India.
India’s Minister for Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah met with Mozambique’s Education Minister Zeferino Alexandre Martins discussing India’s recently announced 250 training programs for renewable energy. Abdullah mentioned Mozambique being a part of the initiative to help increase solar, biomass, wind, and small hydropower projects as part of India’s attempt to increase bilateral relations throughout the African continent.
The southern African nation has attempted to court various countries to catapult its renewable energy sector, among other industries. At the end of April, Mozambique offered land for rental to Chinese companies at $8 per hectare and the country is also an important ally for Brazil. At the end of 2010, Mozambique’s President Armando Guebuza met with members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to discuss investment opportunities within the nation. The country believes that with the help of these countries, it can turn Mozambique’s potential into wealth.”
