OPIC Throws Cash into Five RE Investment Funds

The US development financier Overseas Private Investment Corp. (OPIC) will inject almost $500 million for five new investment funds geared toward renewable energy in Asia and Africa. Sustainable energy organizations that will receive the OPIC funds are the Mekong Renewable Resources Fund, Berkeley Energy, Aloe Private Equity, Indochina Capital Corp., Phatisa, and the Silverlands Fund.

OPIC’s renewable energy funding could eventually reach more than $1.5 billion in order to shore up sustainable practices throughout Asia and Africa. To date, it has supported $200 billion worth of investment in nearly 4,000 projects in developing countries and emerging markets.
