Irish company with a footprint in South Africa has announced that it has partnered with China. Mainstream Renewable Energy is partnering with Chinese manufacturer Sinovel and the China Development Bank to invest up to €1.5 billion in Irish wind power projects.
While Mainstream has about 16 GW of wind projects under development around the world, this will be its first undertaking in its native Ireland. As China has announced that it is looking to up its game in the developing world, this could be an indicator to see Mainstream partnering with more Chinese firms for wind projects in South Africa. The firm is currently in the bidding process for several pipeline South African wind projects.
