New German Investments Geared toward Kenyan RE

Kenya’s green energy sector is expected to receive a boost as German Chancellor Angela Merkel plans a visit on July 12. The European powerhouse is expected to make large capital infusions in various Kenyan renewable energy sectors, particularly wind energy.

"This visit is a vote of confidence," said Kennedy Osinde, Kenya’s ambassador to Germany. "It tells not only Germans but the entire world that Kenya is a safe place and it is open for business. We see this as a selling point to investors mostly from Europe," said the ambassador.

Kenya has been raking in investments to its renewable energy sector, from its geothermal sector to wind energy, and Germany has long been present particularly in its financial branch KfW (KfW Boosts Kenya’s Olkaria Geothermal Project). The country is Kenya’s second largest exporter after the UK and was the first country to recognize Kenya’s independence from Great Britain.
