New Solar Street Lights to Hit Uganda

US solar lighting company Sol, Inc. and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) have partnered to bring solar street lighting to Uganda. Under the agreement, CBC will finance up to 85% of the total solar street lighting projects, while clients will pay the remaining 15% through a loan payable over seven to 10 years.

According to Sol East Africa partner Aziz Baguma, Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) would be required to pay only 15% of the $10 million required to replace its high pressure sodium lights with solar technology that will cover 120 km.

The technology that will be deployed, with a 22-year lifespan, uses LED pure white light.
