AfriRen Supplies Jobs in Ghana

Africa Renewables Ltd. (AfriRen) is recruiting over 70 forestry and biomass production jobs as part of Ghana’s first ever sustainable woodchip biomass extraction and exploration venture, including engineering and senior management positions.

AfriRen will provide the appropriate training required for the operation of several forestry machineries needed in the biomass extraction process. The project also covers the development of a large five hectare storage depot with offices, a spare part store and mechanical work shop. Ideally placed between the GREL plantation and the port of Takoradi, the storage facility will store up to 110,000m³ of woodchips.

The port of Takoradi will also benefit from the project as this is a completely new flow of exports, which will in turn create more maritime traffic and port handling activity, and therefore an increase in local employment opportunities.

AfriRen is working with Takoradi Renewable Energy Ltd. (TREL) on the project that will require an initial $8 million, and for future projects in the West African region will reach a total start-up investment of $40 million. On its first project in Takoradi TREL expects to export 150,000 tons a year by 2012 and to increase this amount to 500,000 tons a year by 2015 from further regional development. In doing so, TREL will further connect Africa to the green energy economy.
