A Nigerian waste-to-energy (W2E) project is looking to get underway, but is searching for a helping hand. The project hopes to include two components in the southwest and one in the north central part of the country.
The facilitators will fund the consulting work that includes a feasibility study, scope of the most viable technology to be implemented, assistance with a business plan, selection of a W2E company, and finally help meeting CDM standards for carbon credit registration. Charles King, advisor to the governments on the project, told Alternative Energy Africa that the state governments are searching for a foreign consultancy to determine the commercial viability of these projects.
He said, “Due to the technical nature of the project, the consultancy would help set up the bid round to obtain a preferred W2E operator to build the plant on a BOOT basis, and would further act as project developers and management consultants working directly with state governments.” The governments will provide investors financial guarantees, tax deductions, and other cost incentives to set up business.
