Companies in the energy sector are major consumers of the $48 billion filtration and separation products market.
A key growth driver in the energy sector, especially in emerging regions, is changes in population demographics. According to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Report, Africa’s urban population will increase by 2.5 times between 2000 and 2030, and Asia’s will nearly double. With 748 million urban dwellers in 2030, Africa will have 15% of the total world urban population, while Asia will have 54%. And with this growth, consumption increases are expected not only regarding traditional energy sources, but also alternative sources like biofuels, wind, and solar power.
"The change in global demographics is creating technical and commercial opportunities as well as challenges for the filtration industry," says Greg Collins, senior vice president, Water and Energy Business Group for Pall Corp. "Filtration and separation providers that can consistently offer high-performance total fluid management solutions across geographic markets and energy subsets will be in the best position to capitalize on trends in the evolving energy sector."
