Nigeria to Build Solar Panel Factory

Nigeria is moving forward with a solar panel manufacturing factory according to the National Agency for Science Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). The factory will be built in Abuja and is expected to help in the drive to use more alternative forms of energy by giving consumers easier access to solar energy systems. Currently local consumers are facing difficulty in sourcing solar equipment and the new facility is expected to ease the situation.

Director-General of NASENI, Professor Olusegun Adewoye, said during an inspection by the Minister of State for Science and Technology that the agency also has plans to build a 7.5 MW capacity solar power plant at Karshi in Abuja before the end of the year as a way to improve power supply to the city. "We are planning to build a solar energy panel manufacturing facility in the country through a partnership venture with the Chinese. Also we are planning to build and commission a solar power generating plant at Karshi in Abuja this year," he said. The plant is expected to be established through a Public-Private-Partnership.
