Led by electrical engineering and computing Professor S.S. Tickodri Togboa, the assembly team was comprised of eight students: Paul Isaac Musasizi, the project manager and technical director of the Vehicle Project Makerere, as the team leader; Richard Madanda (electrical); Fred Matovu (mechanical); Jonathan Kasumba (Fine Artist); Gerald Baguma (programmer/ communications); Nasser Gyegenda (mechanical); Pauline Korukundo (programmer); and Nancy Ssenabulya (programmer/research assistant).
The project received funding from the government’s Presidential Initiative, which gave $9.6 million over a period of five years to the college to help with its sustainable research and development. The electric vehicle cost the college $35,000 to assemble, but officials believe the cost can be brought down to $15,000 as technology continues to develop decreasing the price.
