Gamesa and the New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) signed a contract that has the Spanish wind turbine manufacturer to supply wind turbines for Egypt’s Gabal el Zeit wind farm. Located about 400 km south of Cairo, the 200 MW project is funded by German’s KfW Development Bank, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the EU through its Neighborhood Investment Facility (NIF). In 2010, it was also reported that Japan had granted a $432-million soft loan for the project.
Under the contract, Gamesa will supply a total of 100 of its G80-2.0 MW turbines and will be in charge of installation and maintenance service for a period of five years. The delivery of the turbines is scheduled to begin throughout 2013.
