Local Solar Company Aims to Light Malawi

Solar Charge Malawi, the local branch of South African company Solar Charge, will work with the Malawian government to help bring solar energy to rural areas throughout the country. The company also provides street lighting in Mozambique, South Africa, and Zambia.

With many villages in the southern African country without access to the national grid, the Solar Charge Malawi director Riaz Aziz said that rural electrification is the main premise of the nearly $367,000 investment. He said that each village will need approximately $200,000 to help power generation, and the government had to help by offering subsidies so that Solar Charge Malawi could cover a large area.
