New Solution for Wind Energy Storage

UK company Highview Power Storage has released a new option to store wind energy during peak periods for consumption, helping to solve a major issue facing wind farms. With the new technology, wind farms will not be forced to turn off the turbines during peak wind hours in order to avoid overloading the power grid.

Highview has been developing the technology over the past five years, using liquid air exposed to ambient temperature, leading to rapid expansion to 700 times its volume, driving a turbine to turn the energy back into electricity. Current storage methods for wind energy uses lithium-ion batteries, which cannot be scaled up to hold large amounts of energy.

The company is in discussions with potential partners in South Africa and China, as well as the UK and Europe.
