The Kenya Electricity Generating Co. (KenGen) is searching for other investors to help raise the $12 million needed to build six additional geothermal power plants. Managing director Eddy Njoroge told Reuters that the utility was investigating different financial mechanisms to raise the needed capital to build the plants that could generate 585 MW by 2016.
Included in these plans is the potential to establish JVs falling under a build-operate-transfer system. Njoroge said, “We have the steam, we want somebody to come and build the plant, operate it, and then transfer it to us.”
