A regional framework is being developed by the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) targeting eight sectors, including renewable energy. The group is continuing to work to identify sectors that are complementary in order to promote value-chins and cooperation among member countries.
The world’s oldest customs union consists of Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Swaziland with the secretariat is located in Windhoek. The heads of states for the SACU members will be meeting to revise proposals in the next African Union summit in Malawi in June.
