SA Solar Manufacturing Plant Opening in Three Months

Utility-scale solar inverters and skytron combiner boxes will soon be manufactured right outside Cape Town. AEG Power Solutions began construction of the manufacturing facility which is expected to open by September, with the capacity to produce at least 200 MW of the solar-powered technology each year.

The group is mirroring its Indian plant that opened last year helping to bring integrate the products into the South African solar market. Employees have been trained in Germany to bring technical skills back to Africa to increase the level of expertise available to their customers. The facility has already begun manufacturing the PV.500 inverters and 1 MW TKS solar containers and will later include the PV.630 and PV.800 by 2013.

Trevor de Vries, Managing Director of 3W Power/AEG Power Solutions, said: "Solar power markets are set to boom around the world over the coming years with South Africa, and Africa in general, being seen as a future powerhouse for the worldwide solar industry.”

AEG opened its first South African office in 2010 after opening in China, India, Germany, France, and Spain.
