The US Department of Defense recently announced that it would consider up to 16 million acres of military land for renewable energy projects, and the US Army Corps of Engineers will issue a request for proposals (RFP) to cover up to $7 billion in contracts for "reliable, locally generated, renewable and alternative energy."
The contracts will be 30-year power purchase agreements for solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass schemes. The RFP covers projects sited on any federal US property. Each military division has committed to deploying up to 1 GW of renewable energy by 2025 to help drive energy security while slashing costs.
