Brazil May Bring Ethanol Technology to Tanzania

Brazil’s 30-year old ethanol fuel technology may soon be coming to Tanzania, if Mr. Appio Claudia Acquarone, Brazilian Ambassador to Tanzania, has anything to say about it.  The ambassador informed the press in Dar es Salaam on Monday that he would be very happy to bring the technology to Tanzania, and furthermore feels as though the country is ready to commence adaptation of the ethanol technology.

“If I succeed in transferring the technology into the country I think I could go back home comfortably” said the Brazilian ambassador to Tanzania.

Tanzania first displayed interest in the biofuel technology during the term of President Mkapa, noting that in Brazil, the ethanol program provided nearly 700,000 new jobs in 2003 and cut 1975-2002 foreign oil purchasing by a cumulative undiscounted total of

$50 billion. In addition, the residual waste of the biofuel can be used to process heat and power to electricity starved countries.
