Kenya and South Korea to Build East Africa’s Largest Power Station

Kenya’s prime minister Raila Odinga met with his counterpart in Seoul to sign a deal between Daewoo International and Kenyan Electricity Generating Co. (KenGen) for East Africa’s largest power station.

The $1.3-billion coal-fired power plant will be located in Kilifi, with two turbines producing 300 MW of electricity each. Odinga said: “We need to mobilize resources from all available sources. The business community has a key role to play in terms of investing in the energy sector, building infrastructure, creating jobs, and developing new technologies to ensure that the energy we produce is more efficient and comes from low-carbon or renewable sources.”
